About Us
Murdoch Forrest Charitable Trust
The Murdoch Forrest Charitable Trust was created by the merger of The Margaret Murdoch Charitable Trust and The William Forrest Trust on 29 September 2017, bringing together two Trusts with aligned objectives and values.
The Murdoch Forrest Charitable Trust aims to support registered charities that provide a benefit to people living in Scotland. Our five funding themes are:
- Culture
- Medical research
- Medical care
- Community Support
- Animals
Our History
The Margaret Murdoch Charitable Trust
The Margaret Murdoch Charitable Trust was established by a charitable trust deed on 17 October 1998. The Trustees provided donations for cultural, educational or welfare funds, societies, organisations and/or schemes deemed charitable by law. The Trustees agreed to support any cause which they believed Miss Murdoch would have shown interest in.
William Forrest Charitable Trust
The William Forrest Trust was established by a charitable trust deed on 19 September 1995 and gained registered charity status on 4 December 2012. The Trust’s objectives were:
- Supporting the treatment of and research into diseases and the dissemination of the knowledge gained by such research;
- Relieving the needs of those suffering from a physical or mental disability, illness or impairment arising from these conditions, including the provision of financial assistance.
The Trust’s activities were aimed at supporting the work of the British Heart Foundation, the Cancer Research Campaign and the former Glasgow Eye Infirmary now known as the Glasgow Centre of Ophthalmic Research. It also provided financial assistance to the people or institutions providing care for people suffering from physical or mental disability.
Our Trustees
Alastair Cumming Chartered FCSI
Alastair is a retired investment director with over 50 years of stock exchange experience. He is a member of the Trades House and Merchants House of Glasgow, and past Deacon of the Incorporation of Coopers of Glasgow. His interest lies in funding charitable organisations with special projects and life changing ambitions.
Andrew P Godfrey B.Sc. CA
Andrew sits on the boards of several Scottish charities and has a particular focus in assisting disadvantaged people into employment or self-employment. He is also interested in helping medical research organisations obtain the necessary funding for their research.
Craig Campbell B Acc. CA (formerly)
Craig was Trustee of the Humanist Society Scotland, Craig remains an active Humanist celebrant. He is involved with the Children’s Panel in Renfrewshire. His interests from a charitable perspective are young people, the hospice movement, the environment and human rights.
Dorothy Boyd LLB Hons
Dorothy is a retired solicitor and was appointed as a Trustee in 2007. She has interests in supporting the arts and learning, with a particular focus on projects which seek to encourage and enable young people to pursue their interests and talents, develop their skills and achieve their potential.
